Cold Turkey...

I hate this. Right now I am blogging to distract myself from the sound of Trevor crying in his crib. He has been SUCH a great sleeper for so long...(seriously, he still usually takes two, 2-hour naps a day AND he sleeps 12 hrs at night). It's a strange thing to hear him crying at nap time, he's ordinarily happy to go to bed. What makes today so different? Today he is quitting his paci- cold turkey.

We've noticed lately that Trevor has become obviously dependent on his paci when sleeping. He'll wake up and we'll watch him on the video monitor sitting there, feeling around his crib in the dark until he finds it. Then, he promptly sticks it in his mouth and crashes again. Some may say it's no big deal, that he's still young and we can deal with the paci issue later. But, the truth is, in a couple of months, Tatum will be here and chances are she'll at least be offered a paci. It just seems to make sense to me for Trevor to bid his paci farewell, and forget about it, before Tatum comes and he's reminded of his old friend all the time.

Ahhh... here I am, 10 minutes later and he's quiet in his crib. That wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Now let's just hope he STAYS asleep!

(FYI: the paci pictured is diamond studded, supposedly given to Brad and Angelina as a gift? Insane. I'm imagining our dog chewing on that one like he does Trevor's.)

I have a way to distract you... (and I applaud you for doing what you're doing, now... it seems wise).

My GF wrote a 7 part series on her blog about breaking her little boy of his paci, only he was 3 when she did it. It's heart string tugging, but soooooo funny.

Here's the link to her March archive. Start with Circus Circus Part 1. I promise - you won't regret reading it.

(Her husband is a former worship pastor at our church, they now live in CA).

I can't believe you are already 26 weeks.....wow where did that time fly? Belly pics???

For me neither one of my kids would even take a paci. I call them binky LOL. I am lucky because I can imagine how hard it would be to break him. My 7 almost 8 year old still needs his blankie before bed. LOL

We are going through the same thing with Ryder. I have found that he will go to sleep without it, but he wakes up and it takes him longer to fall back asleep. Matt is much better about not giving into him. I will give it to him in the late part of the day when he is tired and starts to fuss. I think I just need to take them all out of the house so that I am not tempted...it is crazy how early addiction can start...

Oh as hard as it might be I do think it will make it easier once she gets here--we were worried about bottles so my Dr. told me to totally have him off bottles at 12 mo. so he could have two months without them and she was right--he never stole her bottles and was never jealous of them. I wish my kids would take the paci for a longer period of time actually but they both stopped taking them at 8 weeks. Wierd I know. I'm sure it's hard but it will definately make things easier once she arrives :)

By all means take my advice or leave it but I'd think about the bottles too--

Hm, I was about to just type "I need to get me one o' them" in regard to the diamond-studded paci but now I see everyone else has left you constructive advice...oh well.
