I LOVE that blue stuff!...

This is one of those projects that I start, having no plan, and no idea where it will go. The big kids are in desperate need of wall decor in their room and I thought it might be fun if they made it themselves. I had a vague idea that it might be fun to use painters tape to make a design that the kids could paint over. So... I had a canvas and of course, my trusty roll of blue painter's tape. Basically... the process involved tearing tiny strips of tape and arranging them on the canvas until they resembled a tree. Before I unleashed the painting brigade, I took some dark brown craft paint and outlined the tree and branches. And then the fun began...the kids each had a brush and about 5 colors of paint. To avoid the lovely "mud" color that I was sure to encounter when they mixed all the paint together, we took one color at a time. They painted where they chose, as much or as little.
After some drying time, I peeled the tape away to reveal our tree. I'm thinking this piece of art would be right at home in the 1960's! I hadn't anticipated the tie-dye vibe in the finished product, but it's bright and cheery and definitely adds a touch of color to their beige walls! Having done it once, I now have all kinds of visions about shapes and color combinations I'd like to try.
