Tatum loves all things beautiful. She loves things that are "spark-ah-lee" and if she has a hand in creating such beauty, she loves it even more. We've had some fun this past week doing a couple of little off-the-cuff art projects to keep them busy while their daddy was working on making closet/attic/garage space for their brother. That sounds bad. I assure you, we won't be keeping the baby in any closet, the attic, or the garage. I recognize such behavior might be frowned upon, especially in light of my former career as a CPS caseworker. Anyway... back to my beautiful girl...
She's funny. And adorable. And somewhat akin to Michael Jordan in that anytime she's concentrating on a masterpiece, she makes this face:

Both of these projects were super easy and super fun. In the first picture, Tatum is painting with shaving cream bath paints. Basically, this one involves stealing your husband's shaving cream (or okay, buying a new can) and mixing in a few drops of food coloring. Standard food-coloring project rules apply: reds and pinks tend to stain slightly, both skin and tub surface. In this case, any staining was gone within 24 hours.
In the next project, we'd stumbled across a bunch of old magazines. I used two spare pieces of poster board (leftover from our yard-sale signs) a marker, tape (because there is not one glue stick in our entire house), scissors (one grown-up, one kid variety), and washable paints. The idea was collage art. We thumbed through the magazines and the kids pointed out the pictures they liked best. For Tatum, I cut them out and she designed her page. For Trevor, I tore the entire page out, drew reference lines around his chosen pictures, and let him do the cutting.
Notice his choice of pictures? He had no idea what the Clear-Blue Easy stick was, but he insisted it find a place on his page. Once the pictures were all secured to the poster, I set them up with a paper plate filled with various paint colors and they went to town painting their creations. Obviously, this isn't a "wrap-it-up-and-give-it-to-grandma" kind of art project. It's definitely more of an "engage their brains, and fine motor skills while keeping them occupied for more than five seconds" activity. Those are winners around here.

Great things to keep them busy momma! Love Tatum's little concentration face :) hey are we playing Friday for sure? I forget what I set up with Nori Lynn
Love it! Ryder is soooo NOT crafty! Rustin would color and paint all day long. Ryder looks at it for 2-minutes and is done...off to the next thing. A little bit frustrating for me at times...love this though! We might try it next week and see how it goes!
