Wow. That's all I can say. It is now 7:40pm, both kids are sleeping in their cribs, and I'm soaking in the silence. The last two hours have been filled with near constant screaming...I'm not kidding.
See, Daddy worked late tonight, and I had this (not so) brilliant plan to take the kids to the mall during the hour or so leading up to their "done" time of day. On a normal day, Daddy comes home at the peak of their "done-ness" and is an instant fix. I knew there was no reprieve in sight today, so I thought I'd maneuver around it. The plan was to push Tatum's nap about an hour later than normal, so I wouldn't have to divide my time during Trev's night time routine. Everything was golden...they were angelic, smiling, happy, children...
Tatum had fallen peacefully asleep in her carseat. Trevor was tired, hungry, and ready for down-time. As I pulled into the garage, I imagined Trevor going inside to sit peacefully in his chair, watching Thomas (his new obsession) while I swaddled his sister and took her to her room for that last nap... the nap I counted on lasting through Trev's dinner and bath. That nap never happened. Instead, this happened:

And, of course, the video just doesn't do it justice. My sweet boy, Trevor, was trying so hard. He was done with Tatum interrupting his peace and quiet...otherwise, I really think he'd have been fine. Tatum was SO done, that every time Trevor made a sound, she'd lose it. May this post serve as a reminder to me to never, ever, EVER think of trying to keep my children awake so they'll sleep later. The result will most definitely be over-tired, over-stimulated, inconsolable children. When the going gets tough...stick to the routine!!!

Ah yes, the days of our lives. Sorry!! Hey do you do your own blog designs? I'm so behind on all of this stuff but ready for a permanent one...can you explain how to do this please??? In all your spare time when you sit down and eat bon bons? :)
A little unsolicited advice--schedule is key to happiness when you'd rather do anything BUT stick to it. I hate schedules and I now am just a little bit obsessed with it. At least if something goes wrong you can say, "I did my part and it was THEIR choice!" Ha!
Oh, Heather! You sound so sweet on the little clip..bless you for your patience...I pray for mine every day! I feel sure I would have wanted to pull my hair out. My new solution to that tough time of day when Matt gets home late is to just let Ryder loose in the backyard (weather permitting). I relax on the little outdoor couch and he just runs and runs. When Daddy gets home we're ready for a bath and night-night! Seriously, he has been running to his room...it is greatness. We'll see how that plan works next year when there are two of them!
My friend Misty sent me this link because she thought of me when she saw it. That's because this will be me in about 6 months: I have a 22 month old girl and a baby boy due end of September. Lord have mercy!
I agree, NEVER stray from the routine unless you're ready for events perfectly demonstrated in your video.
Hang in there, mama!
