Heather moved to Granbury in 2000 when she graduated (if I’m remembering correctly). Her friend, the ever-present Jenny, was in Frisco at this point. One thing led to another, and Heather ended up living in Frisco with Jenny, and they both went to Stonebriar Community Church (Chuck Swindoll is pastor, which matters below). They both evidently had art school aspirations in Boston? I’m glad that didn’t pan out… is that thanks to Brad? (Jenny’s husband)
2 years after that, May of ‘02, I moved to Frisco. I was looking for a church to try out, so I google’d churches in Frisco. Well when I saw a church with Chuck Swindoll as pastor, I knew I had to at least try it out. I went, and Chuck was great, as expected. I also decided to try out a Sunday school class. So I did some looking and found one for post college, 20’s/30’s, not married (I hate the term “singles” b/c it makes it feel like a meat market…).
So I walk into class, and sitting there in the front row, all the way from that cold night in Mabank, Texas, 6 years prior, is the single most beautiful, stunning… well wait a minute, that’s a little cliché. I walk into class and start talking to and meeting some new people, and then class begins. We all sit down, and in the front are three girls, and one of them stands up to do announcements. She is the most beautiful, stunning… wait a second, not quite there yet. In reality, my initial face-value judgment of the situation was that she and the two girls seemed a little clique-ish, or maybe even a tad snobby?
With that said and done, I proceeded to enjoy some incredible teaching, and the sole reason we stayed at Stonebriar (not because of Chuck!) from our friend Michael Patton. He now has his own ministry, that I have to plug – if you want to challenge what you believe, and know why you believe it, this ministry will do that. It’s called Reclaiming the Mind Ministries, and is essentially meant to bring critical thinking back into the “dumbed down” faith we have in America. They also have a blog.
So I walked out of class, glad to have gone, and looking forward to the Tuesday night Bible study that they did on a weekly basis. I don’t think I even met Heather that morning, but I do remember her, and I can tell you now that I guarantee you she was (and is) beautiful and stunning!
[From Jenny’s Wedding in ‘02 – sorry for the cutoff Jenny!]

Yes a keeper and another match made in Stonebriar heaven :) we met at our church too-hilarious that nathan thought you were snobby!
It is so wonderful that you contribute to this blog! I need to show Steve - not so that he can gush on me or anything but very cool to see things from the Daddy/husband perspective.
You are such a good husband to my friend!! I am sure she will forever treasure these words.
