Love is...

My husband is one of THOSE guys. You know, the ones that make all the other husbands out there look bad. He's the guy who is thoughtful ALL of the time, not just on Valentine's Day, or anniversaries. He is always thinking ten steps ahead, looking for ways to make me happy. Here is my tribute to some of the all-the-time things my husband does to show what a precious and rare gift he is to me...
  • When sitting at home, or heading to bed... if I mention "It's cold in here" he will oftentimes disappear for a few minutes only to reappear with his arms full of my favorite blanket, fresh from the dryer, warm, and ready to wrap me up!

  • If, at the end of a long day, he goes upstairs to change clothes, etc... he will usually come downstairs carrying with him, my contacts case, glasses, and favorite PJ pants to save me the trip.

  • When I was working for CPS, and commuted downtown, he would write me a note and leave it by my keys EVERY day telling me some sweet thing, or a joke, or that he loved me. I've saved most of them, and they fill multiple albums.

  • When I worked teaching preschool, and we had pajama day, he woke up early and took the time to IRON the pajamas I'd chosen to wear, because he knew I'd want them ironed, and knew I'd be running too late to do it myself.

  • He plugs in my cell phone every night to make sure it's charged for the next day.

  • When we're home on the weekends and busy with the kiddos during the morning, he will fore go his shower, and watch the kids so I can take extra time getting showered and dressed for a change.

  • If ever we're walking in the mall, and I point out an outfit in a window that I'd like, he remembers it. Even though Nathan cares NOTHING about clothing and typically spends very little money on his own clothes, he has twice gone and purchased the outfit I'd pointed out (when even I would have had trouble justifying the expense).

  • Notice NONE of the above-mentioned facts have begun with the phrase "when I was pregnant"... know that I could fill fifteen blog posts with unselfish, loving, and thoughtful things he's done for me "while I was pregnant"... and I have been pregnant for nearly TWO years straight.
And of course, he is fantastic during romantic holidays too. He chooses fantastic beautiful flowers and (even better) take the time to write heart-felt and meaningful cards. This year, he became our baby girl's first Valentine and bought her some beautiful roses too! There is nothing sweeter than watching him begin to teach his daughter what qualities to look for in a man. There is nothing better than being married to a man I am proud to say is exactly the kind of man I'd want my daughter to meet one day. I love you Nathan, thank you for being who you are.

Can I add one? Nathan is the kind of guy that when Heather was worn out and tired after having Trevor, calls Heather's friend to find out the information for her hair dresser that is the kind that no one can ever justify, books Heather an appointment there for the works along with a manicure and pedicure at the newest trendiest salon. Remember that Nathan is a very practical financial planner and none of the above things were financially practical. Then to top it all off, he calls back the friend and says Heather gets funny about going to spas, can I pay for you to go with her so she will not have to go alone (I did not let him of course!) I did not know that there were still guys like Nathan out there. If I have to wait another 30 years, I plan to try to find one of the good guys like Heather landed!
