Back when I was barely pregnant, we learned of a family reunion-ish vacation that was planned to take place in June of 2008. This vacation involves quite a few members of Nathan's side of the family traveling via plane to... the Carribean. While I've had apprehensions all along about taking a baby (he'll be 7.5 months) to the beach, I'm doing my best to be an open-minded, go-with-the-flow kind of mom. That of course meant applying for Trevor's passport soon after he was born.
It took us three tries before we actually accomplished applying for the passport. You see, in order to apply, both Nathan and I had to appear with Trevor to prove we were his parents. If Nathan couldn't appear, then we needed a notorized statement saying he was the father, blah, blah, blah. The passport office was open on week days between 10:00am and 3:00pm. That meant Nathan would have to meet us there on his lunch hour, which would hopefully fall in between Trevor's naps. Two times, the stars aligned and we made it to the office during the window. However, when we walked in, we saw a line of about 10 people waiting to get their passports too! Neither Nathan or Trevor would agree to waiting in line that long...so we left.
Finally, we managed to make it to the part where we were taking pictures. Trevor had fallen asleep while we waited, and the nice lady told me he had to be awake because his eyes had to be open in the picture. There could be no hands in the picture, so we had to prop him up by his bottom, up against the required white wall background. THIS is the picture we got... hilarious. She asked if it was okay or if we wanted to take another and I thought, "are you kidding lady?...do you know what we just accomplished here?!" Poor Trevor, the passport doesn't expire until he's nearly 6. I have a feeling Trevor will hold us accountable for this one day.
All of this begs the question, "If it's this hard to get the passport, what will the actual trip be like?!" Hmmmmmm....
